Historic kitchen design. Technology entered the kitchen around 1940 and as a standard they would come equipped with electrified small and large kitchen appliances such as blenders toasters and microwave ovens. The turn of the 20th century was a time of tremendous modernization in the home and particularly the kitchen. Victorian kitchens those before 1900 mostly had not changed a great deal since georgian times in the early 1800 s. Kitchen cupboards and counters were introduced in the early years of the 1900 s.
But the quest for the best counter top started then and has not stopped to this day. Although in need of a kind touch and some rejuvenation we at one coast design the new owners of the 2 200 sq ft. They can be from any time period at all. Tops of counters were wood initially which was an understandable design transfer of the familiar wood from the kitchen table being used for newly designed countertops.

A hundred years ago though the kitchen was a utilitarian space existing for food prep and little else. They had a fireplace or a range a built in to the chimney stove for cooking a dresser to keep china on and a kitchen table for food preparation at a back breaking low height.
Between 1900 and 1920 most houses in cities and towns were connected to the municipal water system which made life in the kitchen a lot easier. They also may appear on other of my boards in pinterest. For example they can be historically correct for 1955 or 1865 or any other year at all. Home joyfully took on this labor of love starting with the kitchen.
In this design an l shaped or one wall kitchen is augmented by a full featured kitchen island that includes at least a cooktop sink or both.
